Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should students wear to class?
A: It is important that students wear sneakers that are appropriate for physical activity. Beyond that, students should also wear clothing that allows them to run, jump, reach, stretch, sit, bend, and move comfortably. All clothing must adhere to the school dress code. Students should also dress appropriately for weather conditions as we try to go outside as much as possible.
Q: What happens if a student is sick or injured?
A: Students who are sick or injured need a note from a parent or doctor to be excused from class. We ask that notes only be given in instances where the child's condition truly requires them to sit out of class and strongly encourage notes that limit participation rather than those that fully excuse a student from participating. If a student is out for an extended period of time we require a note allowing them to return to full participation.
Q: What if a student needs an inhaler?
A: All students who use inhalers are required to bring them to every class and need to be responsible for it.
Q: How are grades determined?
A: Grades are based on effort, participation, behavior, written assignments, projects, and tests. Students are not graded on athletic ability or fitness scores.
Q: What activities do students do in class?
A: There are a variety of activities for students in our program including team sports, lifetime activities, dance, gymnastics, fitness assessment, games, and more! For a more detailed listing please see our activities page.
Q: Do you have any after school sport programs?
A: There are many after school enrichment programs that run throughout the course of the year that are offered through Wakefield Academy including flag football, cross country, and Sportszone 101.
